Mark Vincent Kaplan is a founding partner of the Law Offices of Schuchman, Kaplan, & Gekht. His storied career has spanned 44 years of practice in California. Mr. Kaplan is listed in the Bar Register of Preeminent Attorneys, has an AV (Preeminent) rating from Martindale Hubble and has been consistently ranked as a SuperLawyer by Los Angeles Magazine and Law and Politic Magazine. His ardent and notable representation of A-list athletes, entertainers and business leaders has made him one of the most recognized and sought after family law trial attorneys in the country.

Mr. Kaplan graduated with a dual Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and Political Science from the University of Illinois, where he received the George Huff Award for Achievement in Academics and Athletics, was featured on the Dean’s List and was a NCAA US Top Ten Ranked Athlete. Mr. Kaplan received his Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern School of Law in Los Angeles, CA, where he was nominated to Moot Court, received the West Publishing Award and was named State Farm Scholar.

Mr. Kaplan was mentored in family law by famed litigator Marvin Mitchelson, and, subsequent to joining the legendary firm of Trope & Trope, by Sorrel Trope, with whom Mr. Kaplan became partner. Mr. Kaplan has been helming a private practice devoted exclusively to family law for the last 24 years. He has been admitted to practice before the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals and the Central Federal District Court of California, where Mr. Kaplan has argued as lead trial counsel. Mr. Kaplan has likewise sat on the American Bar Association Marital Property Committee and has participated in the preparation of numerous reported cases in the State of California.

Mr. Kaplan has been featured as a family law expert on Good Morning America, the Today Show, the CBS Morning Show and on E!-Entertainment and E!-News and every major network. He has been quoted and/or has appeared in countless national and international print publications, including People Magazine, US Weekly, the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Forbes Magazine, In Touch Weekly and Sports Illustrated.

Mr. Kaplan has been involved in numerous high-profile family law cases, representing countless myriad household name celebrities like Paula Abdul, Hunter S. Thompson, Bob Dylan, David Mamet, Steven Stills, Tyrese Gibson, Naz, Pamela Bach Hasselhoff, Bianca Jagger, Angela Bowie, Kevin Federline, Charlie Sheen and Dr. Carl Sagen. Mr. Kaplan’s expertise on family law issues has been sought by institutional clients like Bank of New York Mellon, and even Major League Baseball, whose interests Mr. Kaplan represented during the McCourt/Dodgers divorce case.

Mr. Kaplan’s dedication to charitable projects started with his trial work for the Legal Aid Foundation. Mr. Kaplan currently sits on the planning commission for the Samburu Project, which is dedicated to delivering clean drinking water to over 100 wells in Kenya.
