Mark Vincent Kaplan, Esq.
Mark Vincent Kaplan is a founding partner of the Law Offices of Schuchman, Kaplan, & Gekht. His storied career has spanned 44 years of practice in California. Mr. Kaplan is listed in the Bar Register of Preeminent Attorneys, has an AV (Preeminent) rating from Martindale Hubble and has been consistently ranked as a SuperLawyer by Los Angeles Magazine and Law and Politic Magazine. His ardent and notable representation of A-list athletes, entertainers and business leaders has made him one of the most recognized and sought after family law trial attorneys in the country.
Mr. Kaplan graduated with a dual Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and Political Science from the University of Illinois, where he received the George Huff Award for Achievement in Academics and Athletics, was featured on the Dean’s List and was a NCAA US Top Ten Ranked Athlete. Mr. Kaplan received his Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern School of Law in Los Angeles, CA, where he was nominated to Moot Court, received the West Publishing Award and was named State Farm Scholar.
Mr. Kaplan was mentored in family law by famed litigator Marvin Mitchelson, and, subsequent to joining the legendary firm of Trope & Trope, by Sorrel Trope, with whom Mr. Kaplan became partner. Mr. Kaplan has been helming a private practice devoted exclusively to family law for the last 24 years. He has been admitted to practice before the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals and the Central Federal District Court of California, where Mr. Kaplan has argued as lead trial counsel. Mr. Kaplan has likewise sat on the American Bar Association Marital Property Committee and has participated in the preparation of numerous reported cases in the State of California.

Mr. Kaplan has been involved in numerous high-profile family law cases, representing countless myriad household name celebrities like Paula Abdul, Hunter S. Thompson, Bob Dylan, David Mamet, Steven Stills, Tyrese Gibson, Naz, Pamela Bach Hasselhoff, Bianca Jagger, Angela Bowie, Kevin Federline, Don Henley, Charlie Sheen and Dr. Carl Sagen. Mr. Kaplan’s expertise on family law issues has been sought by institutional clients like Bank of New York Mellon, and even Major League Baseball, whose interests Mr. Kaplan represented during the McCourt/Dodgers divorce case.
Mr. Kaplan’s dedication to charitable projects started with his trial work for the Legal Aid Foundation. Mr. Kaplan currently sits on the planning commission for the Samburu Project, which is dedicated to delivering clean drinking water to over 100 wells in Kenya.
Garry M. Gekht, Esq.
Mr. Gekht received his Juris Doctorate degree from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, where he was a Fritz Burns Scholar (awarded to the top ranked first year law student), a Loyola Scholar, appeared on the Dean’s Honor List and received First Honors in Advanced Legal Research. He matriculated, Magna Cum Laude, from Chapman University College/Brandman University with a BBA in Accounting.
Prior to practicing law, Mr. Gekht worked as a forensic accountant and Certified Divorce Financial Analyst, licensed since 2009 by the Institute for Divorce Financial Analysts, and has been qualified as an expert in Los Angeles Superior Court, Central District.
Mr. Gekht has worked in family law since 1998, and has assisted in the preparation of hundreds of family law cases, including assisting with court and private trials, court appointed and private mediation, pre- and post- judgment litigation and mediation, drafting and negotiating prenuptial, postnuptial and cohabitation agreements, and complex family law cases that involved gross cashflow computation, business and asset valuation and distribution, child and spousal support calculation, retirement benefit computation, stock, bond and stock option valuation and distribution, and child custody and paternity determination.
Mr. Gekht has appeared as a guest, commentator or author in various media outlets, including NPR’s Take Two and the Los Angeles Business Journal. He is the recipient of the City of Beverly Hills Mayors Award for Excellence in Communication for his writing for the Beverly Hills Courier newspaper, where he was a featured business columnist.
He has interned under Honorable Judith Stein, Ret. and under former Mayor Richard Stone at the Law Offices of Stone & Hiles in Beverly Hills, CA.
Mr. Gekht’s civic involvement is highlighted by a double-term tenure as President of the Board of Directors of the LAGLCC, a 501(c)(6) non-profit, founding the Community Service Program for the Beverly Hills Unified School district and volunteering with the Harriet Buhai Center for Family Law and the Lange Foundation, an animal care non-profit.
Raised in Los Angeles, Mr. Gekht is fluent in Russian and conversational Spanish.
Meline Kyurkchyan, Esq.
Meline received her Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of California Los Angeles, where she sat on the Board of the UCLA ASA. She went on to receive her Juris Doctorate degree from Whittier Law School (Dean’s List). She has practiced family law exclusively since her admission to the California Bar in 2015.
Meline is a member of the Beverly Hill Bar Association’s Family Law Section. Prior to and throughout her career as a family law attorney, Meline has been actively involved with numerous charitable organizations benefitting the underprivileged Armenian community in both Los Angeles and her native Armenia, as well as the annual Distinguished Gentlemen’s Ride, benefitting the Movember Foundation. Meline is fluent in written and spoken Armenian.
Michelle Yermus, Esq.
Michelle received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the California State University, Northridge, and her Juris Doctorate from the University of West Los Angeles School of Law. Michelle joined Schuchman, Kaplan & Gekht with three years of complex civil litigation experience under her belt. She is a member of the Beverly Hills and San Fernando Valley Bar Associations and is an active donor to the National Council of Jewish Women.
Nicole R. Lohse is an associate attorney at the firm. Ms. Lohse graduated, Magna Cum Laude, from Thomas Jefferson School of Law where she was the Lead Articles Editor for the Thomas Jefferson Law Review, received 3 CALI awards and was featured on the Dean’s List for every semester of her tenure. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from California State University, Long Beach, where she was an AmeriCorp Scholar, completed a 2-year internship with the Domestic Violence Court Resource Referral Program under Hon. Judge Andrews, and was the Secretary and Philanthropy Chair of Sigma Kappa.
Jaime received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of California, Irvine, where he participated on the Executive Board of Alpha Phi Omega. Thereafter, Jaime served four years of active duty with the United States Army (Operations Iraqi Freedom, Afghanistan Tour), leaving at the rank of Captain. Jaime transferred to the Army National Guard and simultaneously began his legal education at Southwestern Law School. While at Southwestern, Jaime was accepted to the prestigious Trial Advocacy Honors Program and served as president of Delta Theta Phi. Prior to joining Kaplan & Gekht, Jaime interned at the Los Angeles Prosecutor’s Office, the Department of Business Oversight, Los Angeles Dependency Lawyers, and the Orange County Public Defender’s Office. Jaime is a member of the Vietnamese American Bar Association, National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, and the Beverly Hills Bar Association. Jaime can speak and write Vietnamese.
